Animal Wednesday: lawnmowers

In our town they found a natural way of cutting the grass of the dikes: not with mechanical lawnmowers, but with a herd of sheep. This herd moves along the dike untill the grass is cut, and then move on to the next spot. Each year they pass twice at our house, so this morning I woke up from their bleating.

  1. That is amazing! what type of sheep are they? I think that's a great way to keep down the grass - they should do that more.

  13. I love love love these natural lawnmowers too. I was so fascinated (they mow the riverbanks in köln) when I first discovered them in 1993. Lots of long walks back then to show my tiny baby (4 months) how interesting life can be.
