Same material, another animal

I tried another animal portrait with the same 'Sketch & Wash' pencil.
Next one will be a cat... I think.

Chayenne

Finished today, this portrait of Chayenne. On the picture Chayenne was wearing a coat, so I had to improvise the shapes and shades on the body. Done in pastel, 30 x 40 cm.

(I guess I was not exactly above the drawing when I took the picture. So it looks skewed).

Photoshoot

A few weeks ago I participated in another photoshoot, again with horses. This time only three lovely models. That day, it was VERY cold, windy and no sunshine - so it was a challenge to get nice pictures.

Here some results of the shoot, if you want to see all of them: follow this link and press >> (to get to the next picture).

And here you can see me 'in action' - I love to get close to my models ☺
Thanks for this picture, Jonne (www.jonnenabuurs.nl)!

I'm the one with the colorful gloves and 'elegant', knitted cap.

First photo shoot

As an 'artist' I think it is best to have your own reference material. So a friend of mine told me that participating in free photo shoots could be a good option to gather pictures of lovely animals. The idea is that the 'models' and photographers come together, both for free. Afterwards, all the 'models' receive some pictures (web format) of the shoot.

My first shoot was at a wonderful flowering moorland, and there were 12 lovely models. So sit back and relax and watch the slide show of the results.

A challenge...

When I saw a photo of Choco, taking a sandbath, I wanted to draw that position: it was almost like an Escher composition - where do the legs start, stop or bend.

Done in Conté pastel, dark grey (and a touch of white Conté pastel), format A4.

ATC Amigo

Finished today, an ATC of horse Amigo - I rode Amigo when we were on holiday in the States, a few weeks ago - a very lovely (and calm) horse. The ATC will be traded, the other artist is still working on the piece.

First portrait in watercolor

One of the things I wanted to try some time, was painting a portrait of an animal in watercolor. Usually I work with pastel, but watercolor seemed like a good challenge.

I was allowed to use a beautiful reference photo of King.
To make things a bit easier, I decided to paint in only sepia - so I didn't have to worry about mixing the right colors. Last week I finished the painting (format: A4).

Thanks Annette, for letting me use the photo of your horse!

Animal Wednesday and GiveAway

Last weekend the weather was so wonderful, that we went out for a walk to a nearby petting zoo. Made some pictures:

And I want to tell you about a wonderful give away, by the great illustrator Shirley Ng Benitez. She really has a soft style and her characters are always so adorable. Go over to her blog and check out her give away!

Okido - part II

A few weeks ago I was commissioned to draw horse Okido (link), and they asked me to do another one! I was so happy to do so - it's a beautiful horse. Today I finished this second commissioned drawing of Okido.
(It looks like it is not in line with the frame, but it really does).

Animal Wednesday: Beautiful Black Stallion

My sister in law, Sophia, has been riding dressage and show jumping since she was a little girl. Her dream came true when she founded a boarding and training dressage facility in the States. She is riding shows and competitions (her last result was a test score of 65.7% at a Prix St. George!!).

In this video you see her riding a Frisian Stallion, named Tito, at the Black Stallion Show in Amite, Louisiana. Take a look at that beautiful horse and the wonderful costume Sophia is wearing.

Enjoy! HAW!
