Onions - part II

I'm slowly working on this painting, but I love doing it. Layer-on-layer the onions are 'growing'.

Onions - part I

Last week classes started and I started working on my onions. It is going to be an oil painting (30 x 40 cm). Only the first onion has (partly) its first layer (don't mind all the charcoal residues...). A lot more work to be done!

I am very enthousiastic about these classes and I think I will learn a lot!

Emma

Last week I finished this portrait of Emma. Her owners wanted this portrait of her because she was very ill at the time. While I was working on the painting I got the message that her condition was so bad, that they've decided to let her go... I hope this painting will give them comfort.

Figo - portrait in oil

A few weeks ago I showed my first animal portrait in oil - the robin.
I liked working with oil so much that I treated myself with a wider palette of colors. And I painted this portrait of Figo.
Figo is a resident of 'Kattentehuis Vergeet-Me-Nietje' (Catshelter Forget-Me-Not) - a shelter for cats that cannot be (re)placed for what ever reason. I am gonna donate this painting for an online auction for another catshelter - a shelter for kittens. All revenues will be for this catshelter. The online auction will start on World Animal Day (4th October).

Robin

For some time I've been working on this project: a painting of a Robin. It is done in waterbased oil, and it's the first animal I've done with this medium - and I liked working with it!

I used one of the wonderful nature pictures, made by Helma. Thank you for letting me use the picture of the robin, Helma!

An apple a day... part II & III

Two weeks ago I mentioned we started with painting apples at painting class. Last week and this week we've been working on the apples again and this week most of us have finished this exercise. Here are the results.

... that is what our teacher must have thought ;)

Our teacher wants to introduce us into working with oil paints. He is really a master in it (check out his site and take a look at his apples!). So the next few weeks we (we = seven students) will be working on a small painting of an apple. It is so much fun to see the different styles.

My first oil painting

Finally I did it - my first oil painting!

I got the paint, medium and brushes as a gift, a long time ago. But I was a bit reluctant to try. Don't know why... Drawing classes have started and our teacher said to me: 'the way you paint in watercolor, you could do so much more with oil paint - try it!'. So I did - and I am happy I did.

Of course it is not a master piece and I still have to learn a lot about how to handle the material (sooooo different than watercolor or pastels). So next classes will be dominated with oil paintings.

But here it is: my first oil painting ☺

Santa has been generous

Santa has been very generous, I found a wonderful present under the christmas tree: a startersset for painting with oil colour (water mixable). I've never worked with this before and I hope that in class I can practise.
