Last Saturday I went to the Zoo (again) with some fellow artists to practice our sketching - and what is more fun than animals in the zoo?

Class and Autumn

Last week there was class again and after our 10 minute sketch I decided to paint an autumn leaf - the colors around here are so beautiful!
While I was painting, my leaf was curling up more and more...

More 10 minute sketches

As I told two weeks ago, classes have started again, with a new teacher. Check out his site and be amazed about what he's painting (and I know that I have still much to learn ☺): click here.

Last week our 10 minute assignment was practicing with perspective (New Orleans), this week's assignment was a 10 minute sketch of a plant or piece of fruit and color it. But we were only allowed to use the primairy colors: yellow, red and blue (mini apples).

Classes have started!

After a long (and cold) summer, we started again with our weekly drawing/painting classes. This year we have a new teacher - he is a professional artist and I think he'll make classes interesting.

The first small task was to sketch a bowl of apples, in 10 minutes - no more! This way he wanted to see what level we all are and we could discuss what we want to learn this year. After that, we were allowed to work on a project of your own. I decided to (finally) finish my cherries in graphite.

AW: Sketching in the Zoo

Last Saturday I went to the zoo with some fellow artists, to practice our sketching. Luckily the weather was OK, not too hot and almost no rain. It was much fun to do and we all agreed to do this more often.

Exercise in ink

One of my next commissions is a ink-drawing of a house with a big garden - so a lot of trees, bushes. Because I've never made a drawing like that, I thought I should practice first. Just some bushes. 

Sketching in the Zoo

Yesterday, I went with some fellow-artists to a zoo. First some catching up, drinking hot tea/coffee and then into the cold with our sketchbooks.

It was the first time I sketched in ink and I enjoyed it - I made so many sketches! Here just a selection.

Exercise - Garlic

This week, during drawing class, I started with some studies of garlic. I hope one day to create a Botanic Illustration from it.

The first drawings were done with graphite and watercolorpencil (and water on too thin paper :( 

The second drawing is done in watercolorpencil - I don't think I can work detailled enough with that material. So next time I'll use my regular brushes and watercolorpaint.

Animal Wednesday: Young seal

Last week we had the last drawingclass for this season and I set my mind to a sketch of a young seal. I've photographed this seal a few years ago when we visited a shelter for lost, sick and abandoned (young) seals. I always adore their 'droopy' eyes.

Practice, practice, practice

A few weeks ago I started with botanical illustrations in a more serious way. I had this book for some time now and never gotten to it to start. After reading the first paragraphs, watching other peoples drawings and getting some advice from great artists in this field, I started my first drawings - not in color, but start with pencil drawings.

Animal Wednesday: quick sketch

My parents-in-law have these wonderful chickens. I made a quick sketch of one of them, who was just tilting her head to see what 'goodies' were on the ground to eat.
